Detail

Global warming, destruction of the ozone layer, accelerated extinction of species- the growing worldwide ecological problems remind us that it is warranted to protect the environment urgently. Earth Hour is a worldwide event held annually encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour on the last Saturday of March, as a symbolic action against the climate change to the Planet.

In this year’s Earth Hour, wfc especially organized anexhibition named, “Paper be with you,” which invited the modern Chinese cultural origami master Liu Tong to grab the public’s attention to value the significance of the environmental protection in a new feature.

Liu Tong, the only one origami country ceremony designer, crowned as the top 10 “2016 Chinese Culture Person of the Year,” the designer of the KIP Pavilion to the World Expo in Milan, is a modern Chinese origami artist. A variety of his works have been collected and exhibited by the Capital Museum.

On the event day, the origami artist Liu Tong used an 8 m * 8 m square large paper, with folding more than 700 times to build a 4.8 meters long and 2.4 meters high masterpiece- white rhinoceros in wfc lobby. The paper rhinoceros was the prototype of the last northern white male rhinoceros named Sultan. The large-scale origami art show not only promoted the tenants of wfc to feel the stunning of the giant origami in a close distance but also aimed to let the public be aware of the related environmental protection issue.

Yet protecting the environment could not be carried out by only one person, wfc tenantsalso joined the event together. The tenants followed the origami instruction and used the recycled paper to fold paper grass. With putting the hand work into the fence around the rhino, the numerous grass created a vast green grassland for the white rhinoceros. Meanwhile wfc tenantscould also use the office wastes and the personal folded grass to exchange the real green plants. To add more green force toward the world and spread the environmental protection concepts to the public.

Through this meaningful campaign, wfc hoped the environmental awareness could genuinely be deep-rooted in everyone’s daily life. wfc also thanked to the tenants for supporting the event, which made everyone feel the environmental protection was not an individual issue but also needed the joint effort. The more society endeavor, the more better the Earth was.
